As of April 23rd 2023 the state of Delaware has legalized recreational cannabis for adults 21 years of age and older. The law in short is that stores won’t be legally able to sell it to adults until at least the end of next year. The state is not even taking applications for licenses until May of 2024 as of the writing of this post. It’s going to be a rough ride for Delaware cannabis users to get any sort of quality product. From my understanding is that the licensed cultivators will be responsible for growing ALL of the cannabis that is to be sold in Delaware recreational marijuana shops. What this means is that even after the permit and licensing process, grow facilities need to be built and product needs to be produced. Don’t expect all of the cannabis cultivators to be producing any quality either.
It’s just not that easy. It takes experience to produce quality on a consistent basis. If you live in or around Delaware, any experience would have come from illegal operations and I am sure that there is not many such as myself that defied prohibition at least to any sort of commercial production scale. According to the law Delaware House Bill 1 and 2 regarding recreational marijuana, adults 21 and over can freely share in cannabis up to the legal limit of one ounce. This called “gifting” and cannot be combined or attached with any other sort of transaction such as a monetary transfer. You cannot ask for donations and you cannot sell another item and include the cannabis as a gift. You have to give it away with no stipulations. Totally free. Now we all know that high quality cannabis is not cheap and that we all don’t live in a fairytale. That’s not going to happen too often, if ever. You are allowed to possess recreational cannabis now in Delaware. That was the biggest hurdle. How you get it is your business even with respect to the law. If I want to buy something from someone that I am legally allowed to own, well that’s an agreement between two adults.
